When Netflix released To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before in August of 2018, audiences fell head over heels for the romance of the quiet and quirky Lara Jean Covey (Lana Condor) and charming jock Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo). Based on the 2014 book by Jenny Han, To All The Boys followed Lara Jean as her biggest nightmare came true: The five love letters she’d written throughout her life were mailed to the guys she’d written about. And yet, as a result, Lara Jean fell for Peter and, in the end, they decided to give a real relationship a try.
But Peter wasn’t the only guy who received a love letter from Lara Jean, and in the final moments of the first film, moments after Peter and Lara Jean got their happy ending, John Ambrose McClaren showed up at the Covey household. Spoiler: John also received a letter.
Jordan Burtchett appeared as John Ambrose at the end of the first film, but when Netflix announced a sequel in December, speculation began about whether Burtchett would ultimately play the character moving forward. And now, EW can exclusively reveal that he will not, because Jordan Fisher — who recently played Mark Cohen in Fox’s Rent: Live — has been cast in the role. “We couldn’t be more excited to have Jordan Fisher join the To All the Boys family as John Ambrose McClaren,” producer Matt Kaplan says. “Jordan’s charisma practically leaps off the screen with anything he does, whether it’s acting, singing, or dancing. There isn’t a more perfect guy who could believably shake things up in Lara Jean and Peter’s world.”
Fisher is pretty excited about the gig, too.
But we’ll have to wait to see exactly how John Ambrose “shake things up.” The sequel is yet to announce a release date.
