The Razzie Awards has announced their 39th annual list of the worst movies and performances of the year.
The anti-Oscars named the disastrous Sherlock Holmes comedy Holmes & Watson the worst film of 2018. The Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly bomb had audience members walking out midway through and scored a mere 10 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Holmes & Watson beat out fellow worst picture nominees Gottie, The Happytime Murders, Robin Hood and Winchester for the dishonor. The film also “won” for the Worst Remake, Ripoff or Sequel category, beating out titles such as Death Wish and The Meg (which was dubbed a ripoff of Jaws). Holmes & Watson director Etan Cohen also won for worst director. Really, this was Holmes & Watson‘s year to shine. The film also made only $30 million at the domestic box office and its production budget was an estimated $42 million.
Melissa McCarthy was named worst actress for her roles in the R-rated puppet comedy Happytime Murders as well as Life of the Party. But McCarthy also landed a “Razzie Redeemer” award for her role in Can You Ever Forgive Me?, for which she scored an Oscar nomination.
Donald Trump was named worst actor — for playing himself — in documentaries Death of a Nation and Fahrenheit 11/9. Trump also topped Worst Screen Combo for himself and “his self-perpetuating pettiness.” Clearly, the Razzies aren’t too strict in the category interpretations.
The quasi-romantic sequel Fifty Shades Freed took home the award for Worst Screenplay.
