Super Bowl LIII is turning into NFL’s biggest snooze ever.
At the end the third quarter, the New England Patriots are tied with the Los Angeles Rams by a measly 3-3 — putting the game on track to potentially end up as the lowest-scoring Super Bowl in history (1973’s Super Bowl VII currently has the all-time low record with a score of 14–7, according to Sports Illustrated). Plus: Not one touchdown has been scored.
The NFL can micromanage nearly every aspect of the Super Bowl, except whether the big game actually entertaining. The match-up has even announcers Jim Nantz and Tony Romo admitting the game is rather sleepy, noting midway through the third quarter: “Still 3-nothing if you can believe it” And then later, when a field goal evened the score, “I can’t believe it, we got points!” And then at the end of Q3: “Through three quarters and not a single touchdown to be found!”
Obviously, the sports drama could still improve to some degree. But here are some of the current reactions:
