New Orleans Pelicans star Anthony Davis wasn’t happy with his team’s effort in a 118-88 loss to the Orlando Magic on Tuesday.
“We sucked,” Davis told reporters afterward. “Nobody was interested in playing, is what it looked like.”
The center had his worst game of the season, finishing with three points on 1-of-9 shooting. It was only the second time in 44 games he failed to reach double figures, while New Orleans was minus-16 in the 24 minutes he played.
Davis didn’t play the entire fourth quarter with the team trailing by more than 20.
The All-Star was in his third game back from a finger injury that cost him three weeks of action. However, the predominant story in New Orleans in recent weeks surrounded his trade request. The team fielded offers but wasn’t able to come to a deal before the trade deadline.
The organization then decided to let him play the rest of the year rather than keep him out to preserve his health for a potential offseason trade.
Granted, the performance against the Magic likely isn’t what many were expecting from him going forward.
The Pelicans are mostly out of the playoff race at 25-33, but Tuesday’s blowout loss against the Magic was nevertheless a disappointment.
