Doctor Who is back in production

The next season of Doctor Who isn’t set to premiere on BBC America until early 2020, but there is no rest for the weary — nor, it seems, for sonic-screwdriver-bearing aliens.

Today, the official Doctor Who Twitter account posted a photograph of the time-travel show’s core cast (Jodie Whittaker, Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill, and Tosin Cole) with the announcement that the show is “back in production!” It is unclear whether the quartet are filming an episode for the next season, the second to star the four actors, or the traditional holiday-season special episode.

It was confirmed in December that Whittaker would be reprising the role of the titular Time Lord in the next season of the show.

“We’re off again!” Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall said in a statement at the time. “Well we never actually stopped — as Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor and friends have been winning the hearts of families, we’ve been busy with a whole new set of action-packed adventures for the Thirteenth Doctor. We adore making this show and have been blown away by the response from audiences, so we can’t wait to bring more scares, more monsters and more Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill, and Tosin Cole. Brilliant!”
